Experience:

CartoDesign Enterprises - 1999 to present - Freelance Design and Graphic production. Since emigrating from Newfoundland to Vancouver in 1999 I have been pursuing a freelance career in Cartography, Graphic Arts and Desk Top publishing. Currently I am involved in the on going Desktop publishing of  a  Journal and two newsletters.  I work from home and have great success supplying client requests from as far away as Newfoundland.  Jump to portfolio pages.

Associate Director/Cartographer - 1976 to 1999 - Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Newfoundland. Cartographer for the Department of Geography and Associate Director of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Cartographic Laboratory (MUNCL).
  • Managed the day to day operations of a production/teaching cartographic laboratory.  (Duties included: Staff supervision, project acceptance, project design, cost estimation, scheduling and quality control including press approval.) 
  • Design, produce and supervise the production of cartographic projects at MUNCL.  Advise and consult clients, faculty and graduate students as to their cartographic needs, finding solutions to there cartographic problems.

Project Assistant -1973 to 1976  - University of Wisconsin Cartographic Laboratory, Madison, Wisconsin with the Design and Construction Branch of the Cartographic Laboratory, in conjunction with the Master of Cartography Program.

Photogrammetric Editor/Draftsman -1968 to 1971- Clyde E. Williams and Associates, South Bend, Indiana.  Started as a draftsman scribing  large scale topographic sheets, upgraded 
to a Photogrammetric Editor whose duties included manuscript preparation and layout, cartographic editing and photo-checking of  stereo-plotted manuscripts. 

 
 
Education:
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN, Madison, Wisconsin, successful fulfillment of Master of Cartography course requirements, May 1975.  Academic interest included:  cartographic communication, thematic map  design, map symbology and tourist mapping.
INDIANA UNIVERSITY, Bloomington, Indiana, B.A. Geography, May 1973.  Course work stressed cartography, urban and physical geography.
